Fencing in Haxby

New garden fences for Haxby and Wigginton homes, set on concrete posts and finished properly. Whether it is a back boundary that has started to sag or a front garden that needs tidying, we remove what is there, put the new posts in concrete and fit the fence you have chosen. Gates are built to match, and decks and patios can go in during the same visit.

Fencing Haxby

Fences for Haxby and Wigginton gardens

Haxby and neighbouring Wigginton sit just north of York, and most of the fencing we put up there is for family homes: back boundaries between neighbours, side fences along a drive, and lower fences across the front. The common thread is that people want something that will still be straight after many winters, not just something that looks smart on the day.

That comes down to the posts. We dig each hole out, set the post in concrete and let the fence hang from a solid footing, rather than relying on the panels to hold each other up. Concrete posts and gravel boards are our standard choice, and pressure-treated timber posts are there if you prefer the look.

The old fence is dismantled first, and we remove it from site along with any old footings we have to dig out, so the line is clear for the new boundary.

If you are weighing up styles, our guide to garden fence types explains the differences. Plenty of Haxby jobs include a gate as well, and we build timber and metal gates to suit the opening.

What we fit

More than a boundary

Closeboard fencing

Vertical featheredge boards on a strong frame. The private, sturdy choice for most Haxby back gardens.

Slatted and hit and miss

Horizontal boards with gaps, or boards fixed to alternate sides. A modern look that is kinder to the posts on a windy day.

Composite fencing

Coloured boards that never need treating. Read more about low-maintenance composite fencing.

Decks, patios and walls

We also build decking in Haxby and lay Haxby patios and garden walls, so the whole garden can be done together.

Why it lasts

What goes into every fence

Concrete footings

Every post is set in concrete, never just knocked into the soil.

Gravel boards

A concrete board along the bottom keeps the timber clear of the ground.

Treated timber

Pressure-treated boards and rails that resist rot and mould.

A tidy finish

Caps where they are needed, and all the waste taken away.

Questions

Haxby fencing questions

Do you work in Wigginton as well as Haxby?

Yes. The two run into each other, and we fit fences on both sides of the line between them.

Do I need planning permission for a new fence in Haxby?

Not usually for a back garden fence up to 2 metres high, or a front fence up to 1 metre beside a road. Haxby has a conservation area, and listed buildings have their own rules, so if either applies to your home, check with City of York Council before ordering.

How long does a new fence take to put up?

It depends on the length and on how much old fence and concrete has to come out first. We give you an idea of the time on site when we confirm the price.

Who owns the fence between my garden and my neighbour’s?

The deeds or the property plan usually show it, often with a T mark on the boundary that belongs to each house. If it is unclear, agree the new fence with your neighbour before work starts, especially if you are sharing the cost.

What details do you need for a price?

The rough length in metres, the height, the style you like and a photo or two. Send them through the contact page or ring 01904 948408 and we will reply with a first price.
