Patios and Paving in Haxby

Stone and porcelain patios laid in Haxby and Wigginton, with garden walls and steps built to suit. We prepare the ground properly, lay the paving with a fall so it drains, and fill every joint. Where the garden changes level, retaining walls, raised beds and steps can be built at the same time.

Built from the base up

Haxby gardens often need more than a flat square of paving. A slope, a step down from the back door or a lawn that sits higher than the house all call for walls and steps as well as slabs, and we build them together so everything lines up.

Every patio starts with the base: dug out, built up and compacted, then the paving laid on a full bed with a gentle fall away from the house. Joints are pointed or grouted so weeds have nowhere to start.

Indian stone is the most popular choice, with porcelain for a sharper modern finish, and slate, granite and concrete flags for different looks and budgets.

We also build Haxby decking and put up new Haxby fencing, so the whole garden can be done together. More on materials on our York patios page.

Questions

Haxby patio questions

Do you build garden walls in Haxby?

Yes. Retaining walls where the garden changes level, low walls around a seating area and raised beds, usually built alongside the patio.

What stops weeds growing between the slabs?

Full joints. We point or grout every joint so there is no gap for seeds to settle in, and the base underneath stops weeds coming up from below.

Can a patio be laid on a slope?

Yes. It can be built in two or more levels, with steps between them and a retaining wall holding the higher ground.

Do I need permission for a patio in Haxby?

For a back garden, almost never. Paving a front garden is different: if the new surface is not permeable and drains onto the road, permission can be needed. City of York Council can advise.

How can I get a patio quote?

Send a photo of the area and its rough size through our contact page, or ring 01904 948408, and we will come back with a provisional price.
