Paving that does not move
When an old patio has sunk, rocked or cracked, the base under it was usually never right. The fix is to take it back to the ground and start again.
We lift the old paving, dig out any failed base and build up a compacted sub-base. Each slab goes down on a full mortar bed, with a fall away from the house, and the joints are filled.
Indian stone remains the favourite, porcelain is the simplest to look after, and slate and granite give a darker, more formal look.
We also build decks in Huntington and put up Huntington fencing. For more on paving types, see patios and paving in York.

QuestionsHuntington patio questions
Can you replace an old patio?
Yes. We lift the old slabs, dig out a failed base and build a new one, so the new patio does not sink or rock the way the old one did.
Why do patio slabs rock or crack?
Usually because the base underneath was too thin or not compacted, or the slabs were laid on spots of mortar rather than a full bed. Proper preparation prevents both.
Which is easier to clean, porcelain or stone?
Porcelain. It is dense, so dirt and algae sit on the surface and wash off. Natural stone is more porous and benefits from a patio cleaner now and then.
Do I need permission for a patio in Huntington?
Not for most back gardens. At the front, a new hard surface of more than five square metres that does not drain into the garden needs permission, so it is worth asking City of York Council.
How do I ask for a patio price?
Send a photo, the rough size and the paving you have in mind through our contact page, or call 01904 948408.
