Composite Decking in York
Composite decks built across York and the villages around it, on a frame made to carry them. Composite boards never need staining, will not splinter and keep their colour, so the deck keeps its looks for years with very little care. We build the frame, fit the boards, edging and steps, and take the waste away when we leave.
- No staining · No oiling or sanding
- Will not splinter · Kinder to bare feet
- Built to suit · Ground level or raised
- Supplied and fitted · By our own team

A deck that stays looking new
Composite decking is made from a blend of wood fibre and plastic. The boards do not soak up water, so they do not rot, split or splinter, and the colour runs right through them. There is no annual staining or oiling, just an occasional wash.
What makes a composite deck last is the frame underneath it. Composite boards need closer support than timber, so we build the frame from pressure-treated timber with joists spaced to suit the boards, set level on a firm base. Raised decks get properly fixed posts, and steps are built into the frame rather than added afterwards.
Most composite decks we build are for back gardens: a level space outside the patio doors, a deck in front of a summerhouse, or a raised platform that turns a sloping garden into somewhere to sit. Fascia boards finish the edges so the frame is hidden.
If you would rather have timber, see our timber and composite decking page. Many customers pair a new deck with matching composite fencing or a sandstone patio.

What we buildComposite decks for every kind of garden
Ground-level decks
A flat, level space outside the house, often replacing a tired lawn or an uneven patio.
Raised decks and steps
Decks that level a sloping garden, with steps built into the frame and posts fixed securely.
Summerhouse decks
A deck in front of a summerhouse or garden room, with a step down to the lawn.
Balustrades and edging
Composite, timber or metal balustrades for raised decks, and fascia boards to hide the frame.
How they compare
Upkeep
Composite needs an occasional wash. Timber needs staining or oiling to keep it looking good.
Splinters and rot
Composite boards will not splinter or rot. Timber boards can do both as they age.
Colour
Composite keeps an even colour. Timber weathers to silver grey unless it is treated.
Cost
Composite costs more to buy. Timber is cheaper at the start but needs more looking after.

Composite decking questions
Is composite decking slippery?
Composite boards have a textured or wood-grain surface that gives a good grip. Like any deck, it can get slippery with algae, moss or frost, so it pays to keep it swept and give it a wash now and then, especially in shady corners.
Can composite boards go on my existing deck frame?
Sometimes. Composite boards need closer support than timber boards, so the frame has to be sound, level and have joists close enough together. If it does not, we add joists or build a new frame before the boards go on.
Does composite decking need any maintenance?
Very little. There is nothing to stain, oil or seal. A brush and a wash with soapy water a couple of times a year keeps it clean.
What colours can I choose from?
Greys and dark anthracite are the most popular, and the decks on this page are in grey. Browns and wood-effect finishes are also available, depending on the range.
Can you build steps and edging in composite too?
Yes. Steps, fascia boards to cover the frame and edging around the deck can all be done in matching composite, so the finish is the same all the way round.
How do I get a quote for a composite deck?
Measure the area you want decked, take a photo or two of the space and tell us roughly how high the deck needs to sit. Send it through the contact page or call 01904 948408 and we will come back with a first price.
